It seems some people have been having a hard time figuring out how to send private messages by going to someone's profile, the quickest and easiest way is to click the "Private messages" link in the navbar and then click "New PM" then enter the persons username and your message.

There is also the method of clicking on someone's username, and then clicking the icon that looks like a person to send a PM ^^
Still, gotta be wary since clicking the icon that looks like a letter will be for sending a user an E-Mail. That is useful too, but not an onsite message x3

Also! In the forum topics, the user information section for each post by a user has a "Contact" bubble you can click that allows you to send a Direct/Private message as well.
