That's a good question! And I should be constructive and actually suggest something instead of just complaining anyway.

It's probably a reasonable assumption that most predators here (although not all) are going to be dragons. Even if not, dragon vore is the theme. So IF you can do separate ranks for pred/prey, I'd do the pred ranks as dragon age/size categories reminiscient of the old dungeons and dragons age categories (while avoiding 'hatchling' because it would be problematic). So like:
whelp - wyrmling - drake - wyvern - dragon - wyrm - great wyrm

If you want to avoid species categories for pred ranks, make them about eating:
Nibbler - Snacker - Eater - Feaster - Devourer - Gorger - Gluttonous God

If you can't divide pred/prey ranks or don't want to plunge into the guts of PHP (valid), I'd just keep what you have rather than going with something generic like 'Newbie'.
I find it slightly obnoxious but it's not like it's a big deal, it's obviously just for fun, and at least they're 'flavorful'. :P
